Medication Management
As a psychiatrist, I provide medication management both as a standalone service and in combination with psychotherapy.
While medication can be an important part of treatment, I do not view psychiatric care as simply finding the right prescription. Emotional well-being is shaped by many interacting factors, including physical activity, social connection, sleep, work, and patterns of daily life. Effective treatment often involves attending to these broader aspects of health alongside decisions about medication.
My approach to prescribing is thoughtful, collaborative, and individualized. For some conditions, medication can be highly effective and an essential part of treatment. For others, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, relationships, or environmental factors may play a larger role. My goal is neither to prescribe medication reflexively nor to avoid it unnecessarily, but to use it thoughtfully when the potential benefits outweigh the risks and align with a patient's goals and values.
Treatment begins with a careful assessment of symptoms, history, goals, previous treatment experiences, and personal preferences. Together, we consider the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives of different treatment options. When medication is appropriate, I strive to use the simplest and most effective approach possible while paying close attention to both effectiveness and side effects.
Whether we are discussing medication, relationships, work, exercise, sleep, or other aspects of daily life, my goal is to help you move toward greater health, flexibility, and fulfillment. I frequently collaborate with therapists, primary care physicians, and other healthcare providers when doing so is helpful and with a patient's permission.
